Star Wars bowling

Due to feedback from a few of you telling me to stop being so harsh on myself (ie. not continuously saying my writing is awful), I thought about it decided that you're probably right. It begins to detract from the actual writing with me constantly denigrating myself. By no means am I saying I'm great, just that I will try to stop (or cut back) the self put downs. I appreciate all eleven of you that read this. :)

Now onto the topic. To begin, a story:
I hung out with friends yesterday. It was good. We had a fire. Tim and I started the fire. I enjoy being around fire. In order to start the fire, we used matches and newspaper (not lighter fluid or other cheating methods). We didn't use all of the newspapers, so once the fire was going, I just started reading one of them. It was a copy of The Advance, a very small, local newspaper. As I was paging through, two things caught my eye: Star Wars and bowling. Normally each of these doesn't necessarily catch my attention, but they were right in a row, "Star Wars bowling." The rest of the title read, "to benefit homeless cats." Really? Are you serious? Who does that? I mean, don't get me wrong, cats need homes too, but a charity event for cats? Is it just me, or is this weird? Call me cruel, but I don't think cats need charity. I don't think, compared to a large number of other issues in the world, that homeless cats rank. I can think of at least fifteen better things to do.

I don't know... I just feel like this is not an issue that really needs to be addressed so largely... I don't know... Honestly, it just seems laughable to me. Imagine:
Person 1: "Oh hey, I can't go camping next weekend anymore."
Person 2: "Why not? What came up?"
1: "Well, I have to help give cats homes. I'm going Star Wars bowling to benefit homeless felines."
2: "..."

I'm not sure, it just seems a little ridiculous to me. I'm sure some of you will disagree with me, and you'll probably have good reasons to. I may or may not really be much of a cat person anyways... Just sayin'...

What do you think?

  1. You may not have used lighter fluid, but lighter fluid DID help get the fire started...
And I'm glad you stopped with the self-depreciating comments. :)

  2. matches are cheating.

and cat charity... it's just one of those things that makes me say, "who honestly said that out loud and thought, 'yeah, this is a good idea!'". garbage.

  3. @Laura i'm sorry you made a poor choice on with the lighter fluid and ruined it for us right when it was starting to catch anyways. :P

    @David that's exactly what i'm saying. it's ridiculous.

  4. Not to mention that cats are pretty dang smart. They'll be just fine on their own. If not, they can call up cousin Andy the freaking lion in Africa and learn some survival skills.

And slightly less weirdly,I can't say I'm against Star Wars bowling. Unless everyone starts cheating and force pushing the pins down.

  5. Bowling for a ridiculous cause has never done any harm, to my knowledge. I think the more serious, underlying question here is which Star Wars figure would win in bowling. Sure, Yoda's great with a lightsaber... but can he pick up a bowling ball that weighs more than he does?

I like the blog, Zac; keep it up. You have good thoughts. I do agree that writing about the blog on the blog is a minus, though. On a side note, I'd like to see you and hang out and such in the impending future.

  6. Props on not cheating with the fire, it's so much more satisfying that way, even if you have to chop wood in the dark.

The star wars bowling for cats is absolutely ridiculous, but funny, and sounds like something only people from the area of the Advance could think up.
