Why? Well, why not, eh? My needs are met. I ate 3 full meals today compared to some people who are only able to have/afford one or two. I have shelter from the thunderous rain we had earlier instead of straight up getting drenched because I had nowhere to go. Beyond my needs, I have many conveniences. I have a job so that I can continue going to college. Heck, That's one in itself; I'm going to college. I have a car I can use to get to work. I have a computer so that I can write this for you to read. No this isn't a "hey look at me, I've got everything good goin' for me" because that isn't exactly true. Furthermore, I've been given salvation when I have done nothing to deserve it. As the head pastor at my church says "Mercy is when we don't get what we deserve, and grace is when we get what we don't deserve." I like that.
I guess what I'm saying is that even when things aren't exactly super, take inventory of your life. Where you're at and all that good stuff. Things are usually going better than they seem. After all, it's hard to see the forest for all the trees. By which I mean, when you're in a storm, it's not always easy to see how close you are to coming out of it.
Again, I'm not really positive what I'm saying, but this time I have an excuse, right? And now it's time for the obligatory "what do you think?" So, what are your thoughts on this? I'd like to hear them :)
Sidenote: I feel like some my past few posts have been lacking a little guidance. That's something I will try to work on. I'm sure I'll get a little flak for "bashing myself again" but that's okay. Also, I think I've fallen into a fairly rhythmic state on the blog. My goal will be to post at least once a week (but probably not more than three), and it'll probably happen mid-weekish. I'd like you to help hold me accountable. Thanks again, you're all great.
Zac, I think you're right. If everyone just stopped, took a second to think about what they have going for them in life then I don't think people would complain as much. For example, I think a lot of people complain about their jobs, well tell that to a father who just lost his job, or to the man that lives on the street because he can't find one. if we put even our "worst" day in perspective to the rest of the world, we, Americans, are doing better than most! After I finished reading this post, I thought to myself how lucky we are to be able to complain about our lives.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, I guess I'm just saying that I agree with you, Zac. We are truly bless. :)
I think we ought to be content in that our worldly (and, living in the Reformed Bible belt, spiritual) needs are taken care of, and, as Dan said, we have it better than most. But I would like to add that we should not be totally content with the state of the world, and those many people less fortunate than ourselves, and should probably endeavor to do something about it. Honestly, I feel quite hypocritical writing that, but just because somebody says something hypocritical doesn't mean that it should necessarily be discarded (or at least that's my opinion).
