Stress: Shear or Tensile?

That, my friends, is what you call an engineering joke. Not funny, right?

But seriously, I figured it was past time for a new post, and this has been in the sidebar for quite some time. Besides that, it's also fitting for my life right now. As some of you may know, I have five finals coming up in the next week mixed in with some homework.

As a second year engineering student, my load is not exactly easy right now. That being said, I also know that I can look forward to so much more in the next two and a half years.

So, stress. What is it? Who has it? How is it dealt with?

Stress sucks, to put it bluntly. I hate having so much work to do and feeling like I'm unable to do it (for various reasons). Coupled with this is the importance of work. I mean, if you have a bunch of work, but it's super easy and not important, it's way easier to stay calm and unstressed. However, if you have really difficult, important work, it gets a little tougher to not stress.

Who has it? Everyone. I don't care what you say, you've stressed before. Maybe not to the extreme, maybe it wasn't terrible, but I'm 99% sure that you have been stressed out before (unless you're under the age of 12, then that percentage goes down). I stress, that's for sure. Usually it's not bad enough to really affect me, but sometimes I lose it a little bit.

How do people deal with it? I'm not too sure about you, but when I get super stressed out, I just hit the point where I start to shut down. I stop doing work, and I feel like I'm unable to keep going, so I find ways to distract myself in hopes that I will feel more motivated afterwards. Unfortunately, this often only ends up giving me less time to do the same amount of work.

There you have it I suppose, my precursor to stress. Will there be more said? Probably not. At least, not right now, and not without a little prodding, but I will gladly expand on anything you're curious about. Also, let it be known that I used this free write to wake myself up a little bit, so it might not entirely make sense and it probably left y'all hanging.

In other news, I sincerely hope to put a few more posts up in December when I'm (hopefully) not so busy/stressed. Thanks.

  1. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phillipians 4
