Let's Hope for the Best!

This post is brought to you by 80s pop and a leftover pork chop.
And here we go:

"Let's hope for the best." In church the other day, someone was making an announcement about an elderly church member who had had a stroke. In the announcement, he said something along the lines of, "things are looking pretty good, and let's hope for the best." What is the best? We're such funny creatures to think we know what's best, or that we think what we want is the best.

(Going beyond that example) To us, it's obviously best for the people we know in this world to stay on this world. Of course that's what's best. Even when these people are super old. Even when they'd be alive but not living (ie. braindead). Even if the life they live is only prolonged by pain and exhaustion (think chemo). My grandpa has said two interesting things. The first one, he said when my great-grandpa turned 95 (he made it 6 more years after that). On his way to the birthday party with my grandma, my grandpa told her that he hoped he didn't make it that long. He has also made it known to his family that if he ends up with cancer, he isn't terribly interested in going through intense treatment to try to eek out a few more years here. He figures he's lived a full life. Now, it's not like he's sick of living, not at all. I think he's just at a point where he's comfortable with what he's done in life, and he's lived a life to be proud of (regardless, I think he still has 16 years left in him).

I guess the point of this quick post is a) to actually post something new, but more importantly, b) that we just need to trust that there is something much greater beyond what we know (we have been promised this). Relating to people we know, it's not all about us and what we want. I think more often than we like, "the best" is them moving on beyond this world. If you're familiar with Plato's cave allegory, I think that it's quite applicable (to a certain extent). If you're not familiar, well, familiarize yourself (I'm not claiming to be an expert either).

That's all for now. And for this topic, probably for later, too.
